March

March is the month of green… March is the month of green

What is a color? Its definition is “light composed of electromagnetic radiation of a certain wavelength or several wavelengths” but for me it is not just that. It’s not just a hue that our pupils perceive, it is not just a scale of infinite hues that we perceive and make our own…but there is a whole world behind those hues that accompany us on the wonderful journey of life and, I don’t what you think about it, but for me each color corresponds to an emotion, to a well-defined memory that sends my mind back to distant landscapes, to sensations, scents and indelible memories that are part of my emotional baggage. Let’s begin our journey into colors with the GREEN colour…

The greenlifegreen color

What feelings does the green color gives you?

When I think of something green the first thing that comes to mind is the color of country the green color gives youmeadows on a spring morning. In addition to painting, a great passion of mine is walking…actually I admit, I wish I had more time to do that, partly because, just as happens to me when I paint, I start climbing the country lanes of my town and completely lose all sense of time passing! Where I grew up, right next to our house, there is a beautiful hillside forest where early in the morning if you are lucky you can find families of deer grazing the grass of the large meadows through the thick chestnut trees and you can see hares chasing each other among the low bushes and, in the spring now late in the year, there is a lane that leads to an old abandoned mill where among the olive trees and broom you come across a small waterfall that keeps your thoughts company with its gurgling. Too bucolic? Definitely yes! But believe me when I tell you that waking up in the morning at dawn, with the light frost brushing your cheeks and walking among this wonderful nature can do nothing but put you back at peace with life, make you forget the stress of work, disappointments and anger and above all inspire you with positive thoughts, or at least it does that to me! And what does the color green bring to your mind?

Alice’s world il full of green! Alice’s world il full of green! Our Alice before beginning her journey into the fantastic world of wonderland was sitting on a riverbank with her sister intent on reading a book. Whether because of the great heat or the tedious reading of that text without figures, she wonders if getting up to go for a walk under the guise of picking daisies is the right solution to that dull afternoon. And so it is that while strolling through the surrounding green meadows she sees a curious red-eyed white rabbit pass by and, gripped by curiosity, she follows him into his burrow and begins the most fantastic of adventures. Too bad we will eventually find out that it was only a beautiful dream, but how many times will it have happened to us too to fall asleep on the soft grass of a meadow and dream of distant worlds! If we then add to that the pleasure of walking barefoot in the grass perhaps during a picnic with the family here the picture is clear, and then all we need to do is try to meet a white rabbit and start walking!

The importance of green color in my paintings… The green color in my paintings is just symbolic of a dimension we must aspire to in order to be happy! In my work “Born To Run,” I have tried to depict what would be for me the ideal city by taking a cue from the “election race,” a literary fragment from Lewis Carroll’s book in which is described a race of various characters, from the Dodo to the lorikeet, participate as they scurry around in circles on a beach in an attempt to dry themselves after finding themselves swept away by Alice’s pond of tears. In this race no one wins and no one loses, but everyone gets a prize; here, for me every day we run a race punctuated by work commitments, convivial times with family and friends, bureaucratic deadlines, and all the other myriad activities that fill our days. The key thing is that all this incessant running must lead us to something higher, something pure and unspoiled, which I imagine to be, metaphorically speaking, that green hillside meadow. Certainly each of us has an ideal place, where we can find peace and be able to find ourselves. Our hectic lives need to prune to a dimension of tranquility in which we can be in contact with nature that brings us back to the primal instincts that we all retain in our innermost being. Therefore, in the painting everyone runs around that green spot, almost crushed by an advancing city, but with the goal of being able to reach that small moment of pure happiness.
